“So, my son, throw yourself into this work for Christ. Pass on what you heard from me to reliable leaders who are competent to teach others. When the going gets rough, take it on the chin with the rest of us, the way Jesus did. A soldier on duty doesn’t get caught up in making deals at the marketplace. He concentrates on carrying out orders. An athlete who refuses to play by the rules will never get anywhere. It’s the diligent farmer who gets the produce. Think it over...”

2 Tim 2:1-7

What this Means

People matter most. We are to give ourselves fully to what is most important. Everyone needs leading. Be a leader.

Invest in people by your example.

When things get tough, man up and keep moving forward. Don’t let anything get you down

Inspire people by your commitment.

Good Soldiers do what they are told, successful athletes play within the rules, and diligent famers follow the laws of nature. Victory belongs to the disciplined.

Impact people by your focus.

Things to think about

-        Is what matters most in your life consistent with what matters most to God? Does anything need to change?

-        In what ways are you aware that your example makes a different in others? How can you set a better example?

-        What are some courageous acts of commitment that have inspired you?

-        What area of your life do you need to become more disciplined in?

Lord, we want our lives to count. We pray that today we will be able to make positive investments in the lives of those supporting us, that our commitment to this game and to you would inspire people and that our focus will be so disciplined that it will impact other people’s lives. Make us men who set an incredible example, give us strength to be completely committed to each other, help us be single-mindedly focused at what we are called to be – winners on and off the field. Help our lives to invest, inspire and impact this evening. In Jesus name we pray, Amen
