To Make a Difference
Here are some things you need to know if God will use you to make a difference in the world. These thoughts are right from the prophetic word from Isaiah 49:1-7 (Click on the link to read the passage). These verses ring so clearly in my heart and experience as I seek to be faithful to the call of God on my life.
Another great thing about these thoughts is that I have found some alliteration… which I like!
Do you know that:
You have been formed by God.
“The Lord called me before my birth from within the womb he called me by name” – Vs. 1
Many times in scripture, a name speaks to a person's identity and character. God has been forming your character since before you were born so that you can fulfill his purpose for you.
You are a great force within His Kingdom.
“He made my words of judgment as sharp as a sword. He has hidden me in the shadow of his hand. I am like a sharp arrow in his quiver.” – Vs. 2
The words you speak carry respect. You are protected by His hand. You can never depart from the shadow of His presence. You are a secret, special weapon that He wants to use to attack darkness.
You are a funnel through which God’s goodness flows.
He said to me, “You are my servant, Israel, and you will bring me glory.” – Vs.3
Your primary and only purpose is to bring God glory. Through you, people will see God's goodness and glory.
You’ll have to live by faith even when you feel like a failure.
“But my work seems so useless! I have spent my strength for nothing and to no purpose. Yet I leave it all in the Lord’s hand; I will trust God for my reward.” – Vs.4
At times, a variety of factors culminate to make us feel like our labor is in vain, but thinking we were too successful brings with it great danger to our ego. As we reflect on our past and our future, the only healthy way to do so is through the context of trusting God. It is only as we trust that we find reward.
Your future is more significant than you know or can imagine.
“You will do more than restore the people of Israel to me. I will make you a light to the Gentiles, and you will bring my salvation to the ends of the earth.” – Vs.5
What a sad reflection on many ministry efforts that they “never do more.” God doesn’t just want us to bring restoration but transformation …taking His message of salvation way beyond what we could imagine. God wants to expand our influence beyond what we believe is possible.
You will experience God’s favor.
“Kings will stand at attention when you pass by. Princes will also bow low because of the Lord, the faithful one, the Holy One of Israel, who has chosen you.” – Vs.7
God is ultimately and actually in charge and one day every knee will bow and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord. A person of influence honoring a person of God is not about us or for our ego but for the honor and glory of the great God we serve.
Which of these traits have you or are you experiencing in your life? Which ones do you need help with? Which one rings true to you?
