The Power of Together

"How good and pleasant it is when brothers live together in unity! 2 It is like precious oil poured on the head, running down on the beard, running down on Aaron's beard, down upon the collar of his robes. 3 It is as if the dew of Hermon were falling on Mount Zion. For there the LORD bestows his blessing, even life forevermore". Psalm 133:1-3

As David writes this Psalm, he lifts high the principle of unity among God's people. We all breathe deeper, laugh louder, and relax more fully when we experience how good and pleasant it is when we live conflict-free lives. But David talks about two tremendous additional blessings that God provides for us as we seek to live lives together.

God's Presence
The first blessing is found in reference to the oil poured on Aaron's beard. Throughout scripture, oil has been used as a sign of God's anointing, and David says it pours on the Priest, Aaron. It is apparent in the New Testament that you are a priest, and God wants to anoint you for His purpose and pleasure as you live in unity!

God's Provision
Secondly, dew in the morning was found at the base of Mount Hermon. This was so important to the people of Palestine as it provided the moisture needed to produce the food necessary to survive. The dew is, therefore, a sign of God's provision. As we live in unity as brothers and sisters in Christ, we experience God's anointing and provision in our lives. Seek Unity!
